Money

Of course I have had to learn about money in Germany. Many countries in Europe now use the same coins and bills. This is not like it use to be. Each country had its own currency and so every time you went to a new country, you had new coins and bills to learn. Then most of the countries in Europe joined together to form the European Union. One of the results of the union was to have a common currency. So it is much easier for me to keep track of my money now. Some countries, even in the EU, still use their own coins, such as England, but in Germany and the Netherlands (where we are going next) they use the Euro. Right now 1 Euro =$1.30 US. This means that when I spend 1 Euro on something, I am really spending $1.30 of our money. So, things tend to cost a bit more here for Harlan and I than in Maine. Here are pictures of the coins.

.............................1 cent......2 cents...............5 cents

.......................10 cents...........20 cents..............50 cents

.............................1 dollar.......................2 dollar
